Cladding and thin veneer
Natural stone cladding is a thin layer of stone applied to a building or other structure made of a material other than stone. Stone cladding is sometimes applied to concrete and steel buildings as part of their original architectural design. These stone cladding products are often fitted to lightweight substrates to reduce the material cost of construction, requiring less material to cover the same area as traditional stone, easier to apply and less overall weight on the structure.
Cladding or thin veneer products can be found in just about every stone type. The actual minimum thickness that can be obtained with a particular stone type depends on both the production process used and the natural properties of that stone type.
